The Lakehead District School Board is committed to upholding and respecting the rights of every student, employee, and community partner, in everything that we do. Our board will: 

  • Promote and foster an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment; 
  • Support efforts to provide equitable opportunities for members of equity-deserving and rights-inherent groups; and 
  • Work to create a culture of understanding and collaboration amongst all members of the board. 

The Lakehead District School Board respects and adheres to the Ontario Human Rights Code in its efforts to create an equitable and inclusive environment. 

The Office of the Human Rights and Equity Advisor (O-HREA) is an arms-length department at the Lakehead District School Board which aims to foster board-wide respect for Human Rights and identify and work towards removing systemic barriers to equitable outcomes for students, families, communities, and employees. The O-HREA can: 

  • Provide a confidential and safe space to discuss issues related to potential violations of the Ontario Human Rights Code 
  • Provide education on human rights, equity, and inclusion to the LDSB community, including information on accommodation, supporting underserved communities, and policies/procedures 
  • Provide guidance on the resolution of complaints in a fair and equitable manner.
