Ian MacRae graduated from Lakehead University with a Master of Education – Educational Administration in 1991. Ian’s career with the Lakehead District School Board has included roles as a teacher, Department Chair, Vice Principal and Principal. He was most recently the Superintendent of Education.

Colleen Kappel has been a Superintendent of Education with Lakehead Public Schools since August 2009. Colleen’s portfolio includes Mental Health, Social Work, Special Education, Equity and Inclusive Education, Alternative Education, Managing Information for Student Achievement, Safe Schools and Leadership as well as the supervision of sixteen elementary schools and two secondary schools.

In addition to her experiences as a school and Board administrator, Colleen is presently on the Children’s Centre Thunder Bay Board of Directors’ and the Ontario Public Supervisory Officials’ Association Board of Directors’. Colleen has worked in many interesting and diverse capacities in the education field including curriculum and computer coordinator and teacher in the Moosonee/Moose Factory area for eleven years. Throughout her career, Colleen has been devoted to creating welcoming, safe and caring learning environments for students.

Sherri-Lynne Pharand has extensive and varied experience at Lakehead Public Schools.  Not only was she a student at the former Victoria Park Public School, Westmount Public School and Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational, she has held many positions in the organization.

Since beginning her career in 1990 as teacher, she has also been a Vice-Principal, a Principal, a Principal of Leadership Development, a Supervising Principal of Instructional Services, an Executive Lead for the MISA Thunder Bay Region Professional Network Centre and a Superintendent of Education.

Through her duties as a Superintendent of Education, Sherri-Lynne is focused on providing the best educational opportunities to all Lakehead Public Schools students.

“I am very proud to work in an organization that is completely focused on student success,” says Sherri-Lynne Pharand.  “As an organization, we are continuously striving to improve all facets of learning that will have a positive impact on the success of our students.”

David WrightDavid Wright

David Wright plays two very important roles at Lakehead Public Schools. In addition to being the Superintendent of Business, David is also the father of a current and a future Lakehead Public Schools student. He takes both roles very seriously.

“I am a strong believer in the ideal and promise of public education. It truly is an honour to play a part in helping our students succeed,” says Superintendent David Wright. “Sound financial practices allow our Board to provide the very best programs for our students to achieve and to prepare for their future pathway.”

Superintendent Wright is a Chartered Accountant, graduating from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting. In addition to financial accounting experience in the private sector, he was also employed as a Finance Officer with the Ministry of Education. Prior to joining Lakehead Public Schools, Superintendent Wright was the Regional Internal Audit Manager for the eight English school boards in Northwestern Ontario, where he was responsible for making recommendations regarding aspects of school board operations.

“As a Superintendent and as a parent, it is extremely satisfying to have the opportunity to be a part of an organization that provides a well-rounded education for students, which includes a strong foundation of academics, coupled with numerous opportunities for extra-curricular activities,” says Wright.
