Disabilities impact the lives of approximately 15.5% of Ontario’s population. Some disabilities are permanent, and some are temporary in nature, and can be visible or non-visible. Lakehead Public Schools is committed to identifying, removing and preventing barriers for people who have disabilities.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 builds on previous legislation (The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001), by the development of Accessibility Standards. The goal of this legislation is to have a completely barrier free Ontario by the year 2025.
There are five Standards that have been and/or will be developed, and they deal with the following areas:

You can request documents in accessible formats using the contact information on this page. Please include in your request: you name, address, home phone, email address, the name and date of the document you are requesting, and your preferred format (i.e. html, large print, etc.). Please also advise if there are technical requirements that you need.

Improving the accessibility of our website for all users is important to Lakehead Public Schools. Modifications can be made to your operating system and Internet browser to improve accessiblity. The Board offers the following online features:
users can increase or decrease the size of the fonts on the website by using the browser’s zoom feature or by changing their computer’s screen resolution.
Menus are keyboard accessible by allowing users to use the tab key and arrow keys to navigate the menus. A mouse is not required to navigate the menus.
The content contained within the website can be read by a screen reader. Images have descriptions and tables are accessible. We are working to improve the accessibility of PDF documents within the website.
Accessible public internet workstations with large monitors and JAWS screen reader software are available at Brodie Resource Library, Waverly Resource Library, and Mary J.L. Black Library.
