Kingsway Artist in Residency Program

It’s a masterpiece! The Artist in Residency Program at Kingsway Park Public School Fine Arts Academy is in full swing! Prior to the March Break, students had the opportunity to work with George Price, Salish Artist and Carver. This week, students painted with local artist Deena Kruger.
“We were extremely pleased to welcome Deena to the Kingsway Park Public School Fine Arts Academy,” says Darren Lentz, Principal of Kingsway Park Public School. “The Art scene in Thunder Bay and the surrounding area is rich, vibrant and creative. We are fortunate as a community to have so many talented artists to draw from to share their experiences with our students.”
Deena Kruger is a local artist and new owner of The Creative gallery that is set to open in the Bay and Algoma art district. She began painting in her 20’s and utilized her talents to help raise over $35,000 for the local Cancer Society and Camp Quality with the Plan for Tomorrow Calendar
Project in 2011 and 2012. Deena is now working fulltime in as an artist and as part owner of the new gallery.
The Kingsway Park Public School Fine Arts Academy students worked with Deena Kruger to create a birch tree series using acrylic paints, palate knives and some brush work. Seven of the pieces from the Kingsway Academy will be featured in the Creative opening night in addition to being shown at an upcoming Kingsway Park Art Show. The Artist in Residency program will continue throughout the spring with other artists coming to share their amazing talents with students at the Kingsway Park Public School Fine Arts Academy.
