Learning and Beading

Today, Grade 5 Woodcrest Public School students worked with artist Leanna Marshall as they learn about the Walking with Our Sisters Project. The students worked on beading small red dresses which will be presented to family members of missing and murdered Indigenous women when they attend the inquest.

“The purpose of this visit and learning was to make students more aware of the Walking with Our Sisters Project and to learn a new skill which can help with mental wellness,’ says Laura Liggins, Grade 5 Teacher at Woodcrest Public School. “In addition, the project has direct ties to the curriculum, as it links to the Heritage and Identity Strand of Social Studies in Grade Five.”
