Positive COVID-19 Case Associated with Woodcrest Public School

Dear Lakehead Public Schools Community, we were notified today of a positive COVID-19 case associated with Woodcrest Public School. The individual is NOT a student. Please see the following message from Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health, TBDHU.

January 16, 2021

To the Woodcrest Public School Community:

This letter is to inform you that the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) was notified that an individual associated with Woodcrest Public School has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is currently at home and being followed by public health.

Working closely with the school and with Lakehead Public Schools, TBDHU initiated a comprehensive Public Health investigation of this case to assess possible exposures.

Although the individual with COVID-19 was at school during the time they were infectious, the risk that the virus could have spread in the school setting is deemed to be low at this time.

Individuals who are considered “low risk contacts” of the individual with COVID-19 will receive a letter today from public health to provide guidance and instructions. If you don’t receive the letter, you or your child would not be considered at elevated risk because of this situation.

All individuals who are considered low risk contacts, including students and staff, can continue to attend school in-person.

TBDHU, Woodcrest Public School and Lakehead Public Schools will continue to work together and monitor the situation for the next two weeks. Woodcrest Public School, like other schools in the TBDHU, has implemented significant measures to reduce the risk of spread of the COVID-19 virus within the school setting.

Further information on the public health response to cases in a school setting can be found on the TBDHU website: TBDHU.com

Further information will be provided to the school community if required over the next two weeks.

Sincerely,

Janet DeMille, CCFP, FRCPC

Medical Officer of Health
