Trustee Character Award Presentation

At last night’s Regular Board Meeting, Trustee Deborah Massaro presented the Trustee Character Award to Jeevan Chahal of Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute for his work with Student Crime Stoppers.

The following is the speech that Trustee Massaro gave during the presentation:

“I am very pleased to be the Trustee to present a very special award, the Trustee Character Award, this evening to a very deserving student.

Recipients of the Trustee Character Award emulate the recognized Lakehead Public Schools Character traits of:

  • Integrity
  • Acceptance
  • Empathy
  • Respect
  • Responsibility

Jeevan is a Grade 12 IB student at Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute and is the Student Crime Stoppers Lead at Churchill.

Through this position, he has worked extremely hard to increase safety, promote anti-bullying initiatives and fundraise for the Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers.

For his efforts as a community leader, Jeevan was a recipient of the Young Leader Award at the City of Thunder Bay’s 2014 Mayor’s Community Safety Awards.

He received the Young Leader Award for his work to make his school and community safer places to learn and live in.

Through the Hate Crime Awareness Committee, Jeevan, delivered a strong anti-hate message as a speaker at the We Stand Up student conference last year.

In addition, Jeevan also serves his community as the Vice President of the Regional Multi-Cultural Youth Council and is involved in school and community sports.

It is an honour as a Trustee to present this Trustee Character award to a very worthy representative, Jeevan Chahal.”
