The Real Story is Community Partnerships
St. James Public School students will be bringing home a very special gift for the holidays – the gift of reading. Through a partnership between St. James Public School, Port Arthur Rotary and St. Paul’s United Church, each student from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 will be bringing a book home for the holidays.
“We are very excited for our students as they receive this wonderful gift of reading for the holidays,” says Elaine Oades, Principal of St. James Public School. “Our partnerships with Port Arthur Rotary and St. Paul’s United Church are incredible opportunities for our students and also for the volunteers from both organizations. It is a win-win for everyone involved.”
Through the partnership, each St. James student was able to pick a book from the Scholastic Book Club. The students will be presented with their books on Friday, December 19, just in time for the holidays.
Both Port Arthur Rotary and St. Paul’s United Church are very supportive of St. James Public School. Port Arthur Rotary is currently in the second year of a three year partnership with St. James. The partnership is focused on the Club assisting in the following four areas: field trips, literacy, fitness and leadership. St. Paul’s United Church has been very supportive of the literacy initiatives at St. James Public School and provides readers to visit the school.
St. James students and staff and members of Port Arthur Rotary and St. Paul’s United Church will be present and available for interview.
