Westgate Students Say NO to Violence
Once again, the students and staff of Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute are saying no and standing up to violence against women and girls. During the week leading up to Saturday, December 6, the students and staff have been observing. Staff and Students from the Gay-Straight Alliance, the Student Council, student athletes and staff have been participating in the White Ribbon Campaign.
“Throughout the week, the students and staff have are requesting members of the male school community to sign a pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women,” says Carlos Santander-Maturana, Student Support Professional and White Ribbon Campaign Organizer.
During this week, students have also been collecting women’s toiletry items to support the Faye Peterson Transition Home and the Beendigan Crisis Home.
On Friday December 5, the School Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute Glee Club will perform “Perfect” by Pink in the School Main Hall during the lunch break.
