A Moving Partnership

The Grade 10 Dance class at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute and students from the Westmount Public School Fine Arts Academy have been collaborating to create a movement piece. The Elementary students created the themes and music while their secondary counterparts are working to create the choreography. The students will perform the joint dance movement on Wednesday, January 11.

“The elementary students developed deep and meaningful themes that truly resonate with students their age,” says Tina Vieira, Teacher at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “We believe that the end production will be very poignant with some very important learning points from a student perspective.”

The elementary students chose the themes of the bully, bystander and victim and losing someone who is important to you. The students held their first rehearsal and are looking forward to their performance on Wednesday, January 11 at Westmount Public School.

“I am very proud of the work being done by my students and the students form Westgate,” says Krysta Dowdell, Fine Arts Academy Teacher at Westmount Public School. “This project relates directly to our theme of tension and dissonance being studied in other subject areas.”

A rehearsal is being held at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute on Thursday, December 22 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
