Hand Made Cradles

A Superior Response to the Cradle Challenge

For the past five years, Lakehead Public Schools Secondary Schools students and staff have come together to support our community through the Cradle Challenge. On this occasion, Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute Technology are showing their community involvement by producing toys that can be spread throughout the community with the help of the Christmas Cheer Foundation.

“I am extremely proud of our Construction Technology students who put in many hours to produce over seventy cradles,” says Robert Dasey, Construction Technology Teacher. “Each cradle has been hand decorated and painted by hand by various students including other classes such as the Aboriginal Art and Aboriginal Tutor classes.”

Following the commencement of the cradle construction, staff were asked to donate dolls and toys for the cradles. Thanks to the generosity of staff and community members, each cradle has a doll. Chimo Lumber also generously donated the lumber to construct the cradles.

“It turned into a truly inspiring school and community effort,” says Dasey.
