Angels for the Day

Students and staff at Kingsway Park Public School will be Angels for the day on Thursday, February 15! On this day the schools will be celebrating a day of friendship to support awareness of Angelman’s Syndrome. The special day will allow the school to show their ongoing support for Kingsway student Zoe McDonald and others with Angelman’s Syndrome.
“It’s a joy having Zoe in our school and she teaches us so much every day”, says Darren Lentz, Principal of Kingsway Park Public School. “Her family has been a great support and organized this awesome event every year at Hyde Park Public School and now at Kingsway Park Public School.”
Students will be wearing blue clothes and blue-icing Persian Man Persians and blue carnations will be for sale. Money raised from Persian and carnation sales goes to the Canadian Association for Angelman Awareness. A special assembly will be held at Kingsway Park Public School at 10:00 a.m.
Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a neuro-genetic disorder that occurs in one in 15,000 live births. AS is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism. Characteristics of the disorder include developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures, and walking and balance disorders. Individuals with Angelman syndrome will require life-long care. February 15 has been designated as International Angelman Awareness Day, a day to advance awareness and understanding of AS and those affected by AS.
