Celebrating a Milestone with Archie

archie_500Ladies and gentlemen, put your paws together for Archie! Archie is an 11 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he marked his 500th therapeutic visit at Crestview Public School on Wednesday, March 2. In addition to schools, Archie has pawed his way to 500 therapeutic visits by also visiting seniors in homes and in hospital.

“For the past three years, Archie has become a well-known and well-loved friend to many students at Crestview Public School,” says Jo-Anne Giertuga, Principal of Crestview Public School. “Archie has provided much needed support for students as they learn to read. He is an extremely important and welcome visitor to the school.”

Archie and his handler Gail Bailey have been working with students at a number of schools, including Crestview Public School, through the Paws for Reading Program. The program, supported locally by St. John’s Ambulance, provides an opportunity for students to improve their reading and build their self-esteem and confidence by reading to dogs.
