Community Partners Donate $4,615 to Algonquin Avenue Public School
Today, Director of Education Ian MacRae accepted a cheque of $4,615 from the local Staples store for Algonquin Avenue Public School.
Every year, the local Staples store and the Kiwanis Club of Thunder Bay collaborate to raise funds for the students of the Lakehead District School Board and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board. This year, nearly $10,000 was raised and is being shared evenly between two local schools – one from each school board – with Algonquin Avenue Public School being this year’s recipient for Lakehead Public Schools.
Leesa McCarville, vice principal of Algonquin Avenue Public School, said the school is very grateful to receive this donation and looks forward to purchasing technology to offer the students a fun and engaging way to learn coding – a recent addition to the new math curriculum and a huge hit with the students.
Ian MacRae is pleased to see the generous donation presented to Algonquin Avenue Public School as it is home to not only 300 students, but also a special needs class and sensory room, and the only elementary multi needs class. As new specialized learning tools and technology are evolving every day, this is a very welcomed gift which will benefit all students. Lakehead Public Schools strives to implement its Value of Inclusion every day and lives by its Mission of being committed to the success of every student.
A sincere thank you to the local Staples store and the Kiwanis Club of Thunder Bay for their annual dedication and care for the children of the Thunder Bay community.
