Dream It. Believe It. Achieve It.

“Dream It. Believe It. Achieve It.” – LU Achievement Program

We are proud to announce the inspiring true stories of two Lakehead Public Schools students who dreamed of their success, believed it, and achieved it, all from the young age of nine.

The students, Camryn Williams and Lakeishia Meekis, are now attending their first year at Lakehead University, and are no strangers to the educational institute as LU has been with them since the day they enrolled in LU’s Achievement Program in Grade 4.

The LU Achievement Program supports students who experience socioeconomic barriers to obtaining post-secondary education. Enrollment begins in Grade 4 and proceeds until secondary school graduation, at which point the students are eligible to attend their first year at Lakehead University at no cost to them or their family. Camryn and Lakeishia both benefitted tremendously from the Achievement Program and felt excited for the future. “I was able to see and feel what going to nursing school would be like. I can’t wait to start next fall,” said Camryn last year as she envisioned her new life chapter. But just like anything, not every day was easy, and in Lakeishia’s case, her mother was the support system she needed. “I’m glad my mom kept pushing me to do it, to keep going. I feel proud of myself and happy to be where I am today,” said Lakeishia.
