Four Legged De-Stressing

Exams and culminating activities will be a lot less stressful this semester at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute thanks to the Youth Mental Health and Addictions Champions student group (YMHAC). The student group, supported by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, has planned a “de-stress week” for students as they prepare for exams during the week of June 1 to June 5.

On Tuesday, June 2, students were able to visit a puppy and three young dogs in the courtyard to help them de-stress. The puppy and the dogs were from New Hope Dog Rescue and were available for students to play with from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. On this day, a yoga class also took place in the small gym at 12:20 p.m.

“The YMHAC have worked hard to provide activities for their fellow students as they prepare for culminating activities and exams,” says Riley Lucas, Student Services Teacher at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

Other activities included video games, a study tip booth, an egg toss and movies to name a few.
