Moving Between Learning Modes (Virtual/In Person)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This letter is to provide you with important information regarding the option of moving your child’s learning mode from virtual to in person, or vice versa, for both elementary and secondary students.
If you are contemplating the possibility of moving your child’s learning mode, please consider it carefully and be sure to have discussions with your child’s teacher regarding the potential move.
Facilitating these moves is a complex process as class and school sizes must be assessed to determine if staff need to move classes or schools in order to maintain appropriate class sizes.
ELEMENTARY
February 1, 2021 is the second of three set dates where elementary students can move between remote and in person learning.
Should you choose to have your child move from their current school “location” follow these steps:
- Have a conversation with the teacher/early childhood educator and school principal about the concerns you have with your child’s current situation and the reasons for wanting a change. Schools will work to provide solutions to concerns and barriers.
- If, after those discussions, you still feel a change is preferred, contact your school principal directly to request the change. These requests must be made between 9 AM January 11 and 4 PM January 15. We are not able to honour requests made after January 15 due to the impact of staffing changes in the system.
- The principal will document the request, and between January 20 and 27, new class lists and school reorganizations may occur.
- You will be contacted by your child’s new teacher on January 28 or 29 and your child will start in their new placement on February 1.
Should you have any questions, please contact your school principal.
SECONDARY
January 28, 2021 is the first day of Quadmester Three and the second of three set dates where secondary students can move between remote and in person learning.
Should you choose to have your child move from their current mode of learning, follow these steps:
- Have a conversation with your school vice principal about the concerns you have with your child’s current mode of learning and the reasons for wanting a change. Schools will work to provide solutions to concerns and barriers.
- If, after those discussions, you still feel a change is preferred, speak to your school vice principal directly to request the change. These requests must be made between 9:30AM January 11 and 4PM January 15. We are not able to honour requests made after January 15 due to the impact of staffing changes in the system.
- The vice principal will document the request, and during the week of January 18 new staffing and timetabling will occur.
- Your child will be contacted by their guidance counsellor to arrange the new timetable if any changes need to be made to your child’s existing timetable.
Should you have any questions, please contact your school vice principal.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to accommodating your child’s needs to provide them with their most suited mode of learning as we are committed to the success of every student.
