The Lakehead Public Schools Foundation was created in 2003 as an independent, charitable foundation dedicated to raising funds for Lakehead Public Schools students. Funds raised through the Foundation have been directed to graduating secondary students in the form of scholarships, to help fund the Grade 8 Awards of Excellence and to support the Student Assistance Fund (SAF). The SAF provides funds to each school to help students address financial obstacles including field trip, basic school supplies and before and after school programs to name a few. The name of the Foundation was changed in 2015 to better increase name recognition for potential donors.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised funds through donations – Celebrations of Life (In Memory) and through an annual golf tournament. The 12th Anniversary Lakehead Public Schools Foundation Golf Tournament, held Monday, August 24 2015 at Whitewater Golf Club, raised close to $24,000.

Individual donations can be made online at https://www.canadahelps.org or by mail or in person at 2135 Sills Street Thunder Bay, ON P7E 5T2.

Donors who make a donation online through Canada Helps will receive a downloadable tax receipt from Canada Helps. For donations made over the phone or by mail, The Lakehead Public Schools Foundation will mail a tax receipt to the donor’s mailing address.

“Our thanks goes out to the individuals and businesses who support The Lakehead Public Schools Foundation,” says Harris. “We look forward to continuing to support our students through bursaries, the Grade 8 Awards of Excellence and through the Student Assistance Fund.”
