Learning and Helping

Grade 6 students at Kakabeka Falls District Public School are using their learning powers for good! The students have been learning about how non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) work and they decided to lend a hand to one that they learned about.

“The class learned about various humanitarian organizations who care and help for others around the world,” says Derek Kochan, Grade 6 Teacher at Kakabeka Falls District Public School. “In addition to learning how they operate, the students learned how they are funded and have decided to do a fundraiser for the Canadian Red Cross.”

The students organized a school-wide popcorn sale with all proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross. Representatives of the Canadian Red Cross will be visiting Kakabeka Falls District Public School to accept the proceeds of the popcorn sale and to share what they do as an NGO.
