Lights! Camera! Action!
Award season in Hollywood is in full swing! In keeping with that theme, a group of Woodcrest Public School Kindergarten stars will be receiving special awards for their participation in the recent filming of the new Lakehead Public Schools “Welcome to Kindergarten” video. Just like the Hollywood awards, the students will walk down a red carpet to receive an award prior to a premier screening of the video. This is the third version of the video following filming in 2008 and 2011.
“The Welcome to Kindergarten video is a very important resource for parents and their children to see what a typical day in one of our Kindergarten classrooms looks like,” says Donica LeBlanc, Early Years Lead, Lakehead Public Schools. “As programming and classroom components like technology continue to evolve, we must continue to update parent resources to ensure that they accurately depict what is currently occurring in our classrooms.”
What will my child learn? Will my child be safe? Will my child have fun? These are the questions that parents have when they are preparing to send their child to school for the first time. The Welcome to Kindergarten video addresses these questions by video accurately illustrating an average day in Kindergarten from the moment the child comes to school and then follows the class throughout the entire day. The video, produced by the Creative Services Department of Dougall Media and filmed at Woodcrest Public School, can be viewed on this website, Lakehead Public Schools Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LakeheadSchools and the Lakehead Public Schools YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnxfUjI8xNE.
“Many parents are apprehensive about sending their child to school for the first time as they are unsure of what to expect,” says LeBlanc. “We hope that this resource, in addition to a number of other resources and events, will help parents feel more at ease about sending their child to school.”
Research indicates that the early years, ages 0 to 6, are among the most critical years in a child’s life. At this time, parents and educators have the most influence on the long-term development, learning and future success of children. Lakehead Public Schools continues to invest energy and resources into Kindergarten programs which provide a variety of learning opportunities and experiences.
