NASP Hits the Bullseye at Kingsway
The National Archery in Schools Program has hit the mark at an elementary school in Thunder Bay. Through the help of community sponsors including the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), Northwestern Sportsman’s Alliance and DNR Sporting Goods combined with school fundraising, Kingsway Park Public School students have been able to participate in a nationally recognized safe, engaging and educational archery program.
“Our intermediate students have responded extremely well to the program that is designed to maximize student success through a disciplined structure while maintaining a high degree of safety and control,” says Darren Lentz, Principal of Kingsway Park Public School. “Students have become very proficient very quickly and it fits perfectly into our physical and health education curriculum and transfers well to discipline in many other subject areas.”
The program is facilitated by four school instructors and one community/school police officer who have been trained in Olympic style target archery. The OFAH administers the program across the province that focuses on target style archery while improving student motivation, attention, behaviour, attendance and focus.
