Students learning about robotics at Summer Camp

Students in Grades 1 to 5 from a number of Lakehead Public Schools elementary schools are learning the ins and outs of robotics at a special summer learning camp at Claude E. Garton Public School this week. The elementary students will be learning and working with high school and university students and teaching staff as they learn to code and operate robots.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the participating students to have fun and continue to build their literacy and numeracy skills during the summer break,” says Donica LeBlanc, Supervising Principal – Early Years, Lakehead Public Schools. “It also provides a venue for the students to experience coding, a skill that is in high demand throughout the world.”

As the students learn at the camp they will be using Scratch, Sphero and Dash robots. The resources available at the camp will be provided to schools this coming Fall. The skills leaned by both the teachers and the students during the summer program will be transferred into the classrooms.
