School Renewal Plan Takes Next Step

At this evening’s Special Board Meeting, the Lakehead District School Board approved recommendations to initiate a Pupil Accommodation Review and the formation of North Side and South Side Pupil Accommodation Review Committees to gather input on the proposed School Renewal Plan. The Board also approved an exception to Pupil Accommodation Review Policy 9010 and directed administration to submit a business case to the Ministry of Education for an addition at Kingsway Park Public School that will accommodate students from Hyde Park and Kingsway Park Public Schools. The recommendations were contained in the initial Staff Report delivered to the Board on Tuesday, February 9.

“This is the beginning of an opportunity to renew and revitalize our system while addressing underutilized space in our schools,” says Ian MacRae, Director of Education. “We believe that the options presented to our stakeholders for their feedback will provide optimal opportunities for our students to achieve academic excellence, well-being and personal success.”

The pupil accommodation review process is conducted in accordance with the recently revised Ministry of Education Pupil Accommodation Review Guidelines and the Lakehead District School Board Pupil Accommodation Review Policy 9010. Two Accommodation Review Committees (ARCs) will be established to represent the schools under review as part of the North Side and South Side Renewal Plans. The ARC acts as a conduit of information between the Board and members of the school. Input will be collected during two public meetings as well as delegations to the Board.
