Superior Students Taking a Ride

Grade 9 and 10 Indigenous students at Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute boarded a chartered Thunder Bay Transit bus and took a ride on Tuesday, October 3. The students spent the day traveling around the city in the chartered bus and visited a number of locations to learn about recreation and health services available to them in the community. A focus on safety and safe places was also a significant component of the day.
“This unique tour of our community is all about positive places and positive spaces,” says Andrew Foulds, Vice Principal of Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with our community partners to provide this genuine learning experience for our students.”
The students began the day by boarding the Thunder Bay Transit bus and receiving an inservice on the transit services available in the city. The special charter bus then took the students to a number of locations including:
- Waverly Public Library
- Students will tour the library and get library cards
- Canada Games Complex
- Facility tour with information on recreation programs and PRO Kids.
- Lunch at the Marina with Roots to Harvest
- Presentations include River Audit and Public Safety provided by Constable Ben Grieve and Lee Ann Chrevrette and Norm Gale from the City of Thunder Bay
- Indigenous Friendship Centre
- Presentations on Youth Council and program and services provided.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit
- Presentations on the following programs will be provided: Sexual Health, Mental Health, Immunization, Dental Health.
