Westmount Academy Students Cooking Up Character

Westmount Public School Global Citizen Academy students cooked up an order of good character with a side of compassion at Shelter House on Monday, December 11. The students worked with a volunteer who is a retired chef to prepare and serve turkey pot pies and dessert.

“Our students always look forward to doing what they can to help out at Shelter House during our monthly visits,” says Lisa Dampier, Westmount Public School Global Citizen Academy Teacher. “In addition to preparing and serving a meal under the guidance of a chef, the students will also be donating books and warm clothes as well as making holiday crafts with Shelter House clients.”

The Westmount Public School Learning Academy is focused on Sports and Recreation, Fine Arts and Global Citizenship. The Academy provides Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The Learning Academy provides opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
