What Matters Most: Minister of Labour Visit

The Grade 6, 7 and 8 students in the Five Mile Public School Wellness Learning Academy have been exploring the themes of “What Matters Most” and “What you do Matters”. And to delve further into these themes, the students have invited Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour for a visit.

“Our students are very excited to welcome Minister Hajdu to our school,” says Angelina Tassone-Vogrig, Principal of Five Mile Public School. “It is going to be a wonderful session where the Minister will speak to students about her experiences that have brought her to this present place in life that have helped her to answer the questions ‘What matters most?’ and ‘How does what you do matter?’”

Minister Hajdu will also spend some time answering student questions about gender equity, skills students should develop to support their future employability and so much more.

The Five Mile Public School Academy is one of three pilot project Lakehead Public School Learning Academies. The Academies provide Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The pilot academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
