Raising the Special Olympics Flag

Tasty Project Benefits Special Olympics

It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it! On Tuesday, November 12, students in the Nor’wester View Public School Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) and the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEM) Learning Academies will have the enviable task of working with Prime Gelato to develop a new flavour with portions of the sales going to the Special Olympics.

“Our students will be using their knowledge of STEAM and STEM to create a unique flavour with the staff of Prime Gelato,” says Megan Major, Nor’wester View Public Learning Academy Teacher. “This will be a wonderful experience for the students to see how their knowledge will benefit others.”

The Nor’wester View Public School Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) and the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEM) Learning Academies provides Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The Lakehead Public Schools learning academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
