Kingsway Principal is one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals

Lakehead Public Schools is pleased to announce that Darren Lentz, Kingsway Park/Hyde Park Public School Principal has been named as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals of 2017. Principal Lentz joins 39 other Principals from across the country, as announced today by the Learning Partnership’s Canada’s Outstanding Principals program.

“This is a very well deserved honour for Principal Lentz and for the entire Kingsway Park and Hyde Park community”, says Ian MacRae, Director of Education, Lakehead Public Schools. “This award is a testament to his innovation, leadership and creativity in finding solutions and opportunities within the school community that he serves. We are extremely proud of this recognition for Principal Lentz.”

Principal Lentz will attend the Canada’s Outstanding Principals ceremony February 28 in Toronto to receive his award. He will also attend an executive training program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management later in the year. With this award, Principal Lentz becomes a member of the exclusive National Academy of Canada’s Outstanding Principals with a membership of over 400 Principals from across the country.

Principal Darren Lentz – Background

Mr. Lentz graduated from Lakehead University’s Outdoor Recreation Program in 1994, and received his Bachelor of Education degree two years later. He began his teaching career with Fort Hope First Nation before moving to Sioux Lookout to teach at Pelican Falls High School. In 2006, Mr. Lentz began teaching with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board at Queen Elizabeth District High School. During this time, he completed a Master of Education degree program, developed Outdoor Education programs for the Board, and taught traditional skills and technology within an Indigenous curriculum model. He then moved to Thunder Bay and served as Vice Principal at Algonquin Avenue Public School and Ecole Gron Morgan with Lakehead Public Schools. Mr. Lentz has been the Principal of Hyde Park (JK-Grade3) and Kingsway Park (Grades 4-8) Schools since 2013. Mr. Lentz is also a Lecturer of Aboriginal Education, teaching in the Native Language Instructors Program at Lakehead University. He also teaches Additional Qualifications courses, as well as Outdoor and Hunting Certification courses.
