Expression of Interest – Grade 7/8 EDGE Hockey Academy (2026–27)
Lakehead Public Schools is exploring the possibility of launching an EDGE Hockey Academy pilot program for motivated Grade 7 and 8 student-athletes in the 2026–27 school year. This initiative builds on the success of our secondary EDGE Hockey Academy, which began in September 2025 for Grade 9 students.
Program Overview (Proposed):
Who: Grade 7/8 student-athletes with their own hockey equipment and access to transportation.
When: Before school, mornings (7 am – 8 am), September–March.
What:
- On-ice hockey instruction (technical skills & game play) with highly qualified coaches.
- Virtual learning focused on fitness, nutrition, recovery, goal-setting, and healthy living.
- Students who complete 50 hours of ice time and 50 hours of virtual learning may earn a high school credit while developing hockey skills and healthy habits.
- Support for the transition from Grade 8 to secondary school.
Cost: Program fee to be determined (maximum of $500).
Other: Equipment storage may be available; rink availability will be secured if there is enough interest.
Important Note: This program is currently in the proposal stage. It will only move forward if there is sufficient interest from families to make it feasible for the 2026–27 school year. Your feedback and expression of interest are essential in helping us determine whether to proceed.
