Lakehead Public Schools sees improvement across all provincial measures
THUNDER BAY, ON – Lakehead Public Schools is celebrating as it saw improvements in all eight provincial measures in the 2025-26 EQAO results.
The school board is one of four Ontario English public school boards to see no decline and one of three to see improvements in all areas. Grade 3 students ranked third among all Ontario English public boards in reading and mathematics and fourth in writing. Grade 6 students also performed above the provincial average in all categories. At the secondary level, Grade 9 students saw a 3.4 percentage point increase in mathematics and OSSLT success rose by 6.6 percentage points.
“These results are a culmination of learning over time, not simply the work of one grade, one teacher or one school year, and reflects the collective efforts of the many staff, guardians, school communities and most importantly the students themselves who have contributed to student success over the years,” said Lakehead Public Schools CEO Sherri-Lynne Pharand.
“They reflect focused instruction, timely intervention, thoughtful use of evidence, strong school leadership and the daily work of building the conditions in which students can learn. Most importantly, they represent more students demonstrating the knowledge and skills expected at the provincial standard which gives them a solid foundation for their future learning.”
