Trustee Ellen Chambers was elected as a trustee for Lakehead District School Board in October 2014. Trustee Chambers was elected as the chair of the Board in December 2018 and was re-elected as chair of the Board on December 3, 2019. She is a member of the following committees: Coordinating Committee, Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPBSA) Board of Directors, and is the voting delegate, Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) Liaison Committee and Equity and Inclusive Education Committee. She is the alternate member of the Suspension Appeal Hearing/Expulsion Hearing Committee, Principal Selection Process Committee and Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee (AEAC).

Trustee Trudy Tuchenhagen was elected as a trustee for Lakehead District School Board in November 1997 to November 2010. Trustee Tuchenhagen was re-elected in November 2014. Trustee Tuchenhagen was elected as vice chair on December 3, 2019. In addition to her trustee duties, she is a member of the following committees: Coordinating Committee, Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) Director Liaison Committee, Suspension Appeal Hearing/Expulsion Hearing Committee, Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), Success Advisory Committee (SAC), Lakehead Public Schools International (2021), Audit Committee and Thunder Bay Public Library Board (2022). She is an alternate member of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).

Trustee Oikonen is a trustee member on Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) Director Liaison Committee, Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) Awards Selection Committee and Audit Committee. Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute student Sierra Gaudreau was named the 2019-2020 student trustee this past spring. Sierra commenced her duties as the student trustee on August 1.”I am very proud and excited to be chosen as the student trustee for the 2019-2020 school year,” says Sierra Gaudreau, incoming Lakehead District School Board student trustee. “I am passionate about education and I am always looking for more opportunities to become more involved in my education experience.”In addition to her studies, Sierra is very busy with numerous activities at her school and in her community:’School Activities:

Following secondary school, Sierra is interested in attending university to obtain a science degree and to eventually attend medical school to pursue psychiatry.The student trustee provides representation for all Lakehead Public Schools students in accordance with Ontario Legislation. The student trustee is a non-voting member and has a one year term for students in Grade 11 or 12. Students may apply for a second term.

Keira Essex – Indigenous Student Trustee

At the Tuesday, December 3 Annual Meeting of the Lakehead District School Board, Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute Grade 11 International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme student, Keira Essex, was introduced as the first Indigenous Student Trustee. One student from each of the secondary schools was interviewed for the position of Indigenous Student Trustee.“The Board is extremely pleased to welcome Keira as the first Indigenous Student Trustee of the Lakehead District School Board,” says Ellen Chambers, Chair of the Lakehead District School Board. “Keira will play a significant role in ensuring that the voices of Indigenous students are well represented at the Board table.”
In addition to her studies, Keira is very busy with numerous activities at her school and in her community:
