Churchill Carries the Baton for Relay for Life

The students and staff of Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute are now carrying the baton for Relay for Life. With the recent conclusion to the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Thunder Bay, Sir Winston Churchill Colligate and Vocational Institute will be hosting a Relay for Life event on Friday, June 9 for students in grades 7 to 12.
“The Relay for Life not only raised much needed funds for cancer research, but it also provided an excellent venue for cancer awareness,’ says Ryan McDonnell, Student Success Teacher at Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “The Relay for Life event at Churchill will provide an excellent opportunity to promote cancer awareness with the attending students. We are extremely excited and proud to host the Relay for Life.”
The Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute Relay for will be held on Friday, June 9 from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on the grounds of the school. The event will be moved indoors in the event of rain. The Churchill Relay for Life will feature an evening will be filled with games, food, activities, a survivor walk and luminary ceremony and much more.
“The Relay For Life Youth program is fairly new to Northwestern Ontario and we are really excited to be working with the staff and students at Sir Winston Churchill CVI. This program empowers students with life skills, early leadership skills and it helps to build school spirit and to assist in weaving philanthropy into the school,” says Dani Ashley, Relay For Life Youth Coordinator at Canadian Cancer Society. “They’ve been working so hard these past few months and we’re really excited to be part of this event as it unfolds on Friday June 9th. Together we are making a real impact in the fight against cancer!”
