Happiness Project

As part of the Five Mile Public School Wellness Academy, students in Grade 6/7 and Grade 7/8 have been working on a Happiness Project with Gemma Romano, a Master’s student from Lakehead University.

Students have been working on an activity to “Pay It Forward” whereby they do random acts of kindness for various classes/staff and then reflect on how doing things for others can actually improve their own overall level of happiness.

The Five Mile Public School Academy is one of three pilot project Lakehead Public School Learning Academies. The Academies provide Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The pilot academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.

The Five Mile Public School Academy is focused on Well-being, Environmental Education and Social Justice & Citizenship.
