Vikings Run Off with NCAA Scholarships

Hard work and dedication have paid off for Hanna Johnston and Jordan MacIntosh of Hammarskjold High School. Hanna and Jordan, both French Immersion Honour roll students, have accepted athletic scholarships and are signing their National Letter of Intent on Thursday, November 10, to compete at the NCAA Division I level and attend university in the United States.

“The entire Hammarskjold High School community is proud of Hanna and Jordan for their outstanding athletic accomplishments and wish them well in their post-secondary athletic pursuits,” says Derek DiBlasio, Principal of Hammarskjold High School. “We are also very proud because they are extremely good students and exemplary school citizens who will go very far in life once they have finished their running careers.”

Hanna will be studying Health Sciences with a Minor in Business and will run for Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, while Jordan will be studying Architecture and will run for the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Training with the Hammarskjold Vikings and the Lakehead Running Club, Hanna and Jordan have experienced great success, both on the track and in cross-country, at the local, provincial, national and international levels. Just over the past weekend, both Hannah and Jordan competed with distinction at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Cross Country Running Championships in Port Hope. Hanna finished second in the Senior Girls race and Jordan finished fourth in the Senior Boys final.
