Lisa Thompson, Minister of Education
Mowat Block 22 Floor
900 Bay Street
Toronto, Ontario
M7A 1L2

Dear Minister Thompson,

Lakehead Public Schools believes strongly in equity and inclusion and we have woven these beliefs into our Strategic Plan. The 1998 Health and Physical Education Curriculum is not reflective of the realities of the current issues facing our students including sexual orientation, gender identity, consent and internet safety. We do not believe that this change to the curriculum is in the best interests of our students.

We remain in support of the position taken by the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) in their letter to the Minister of Education – http://www.opsba.org/SiteCollectionDocuments/OPSBAletterHealth+PhysEdJul2518.pdf

Lakehead Public Schools will continue to be guided by our commitment to equity and inclusion and our responsibilities under the Human Rights Code and the Education Act to provide safe, equitable and inclusive learning environments for our students as we await further clarification from the Ministry of Education.

Thank you,

Ian MacRae, Director of Education
Lakehead Public Schools
