Westmount Students are Climbing to the Top!

Sometimes, it seems like the climb to the top is almost impossible! But not for the students of the Westmount Public School Academy! The students in the Westmount Academy focused on Sports and Recreation earned their climbing certifications at the Boulder Bear Climbing Centre on Thursday, October 20.

“The Westmount Academy students worked with the climbing instructors at the Boulder Bear Climbing Centre to earn their belay certification followed by an opportunity for more climbing instruction and climbing time,” says Casey Charles, Grade 7/8 Sports and Recreation Academy Teacher at Westmount Public School.

The Westmount Public School Academy is one of three pilot project Lakehead Public School Learning Academies. The Academies provide Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The pilot academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
