Crowning a New Kingsway Cake Boss

In the words of Buddy Valastro, the Cake Boss, “No matter what the recipe, any baker can do wonders in the kitchen with some good ingredients and an upbeat attitude!”

There were good ingredients and upbeat attitudes as the Kingsway Park Public School Learning Fine Arts Academy students battled it out for Cake supremacy on Friday, April 27! For this year’s exciting battle, the students prepared with a little bit of expert help.

“We have been very fortunate to have tapped into the expertise of Confederation College Culinary Chef Shane Warwick to help us to get ready,” says Ryan Roy, Kingsway Park Public School Grade 8 Teacher. “Chef Warwick worked with the students on the finer arts of cake decorating and working with icing. He was also on hand for the big competition.”

Students planned, organized and made their cakes from scratch in this very exciting competition. The Fine Arts focus on Culinary teaches students about planning and organization as well as teamwork.

“There are so many transferable skills that are learned through this activity that are much more than just a beautiful and hopefully tasty cake when they are finished,” Says Roy.
