Pep Rally Raises Spirits and Funds

Tigers pep RallyTiger Spirit will be in full “Roar” on Friday afternoon! A special pep rally will pump up the Westgate Tiger varsity Football Team for their game against St. Ignatius and raise funds for a very special school project at the same time. Students attending the pep rally and the football game will be asked for a donation and all funds raised will be used to help build a school in an underprivileged country.

Thanks to the generous cooperation of the SSSAA organizing committee, the Westgate co-curricular coordinators, team coaches and the Student Activities Council, a traditional style Pep Rally will be held in the school’s gymnasium prior to the game- complete with banners, cheerleaders, and screaming fans. Busses will then transport students with tickets to the stadium.

“It’s not often that we get to play in front of a roaring crowd at one of our three o’clock games” says Mike McNally, Westgate Head Football Coach. “I think having students bussed to the game with the team will show our kids that they have the support of their peers and sometimes that makes all the difference.”

Two dollars from every ticket sold will also be donated to charity. Several student-run groups at Westgate are coming together this year to support a school-wide ‘Free the Children’ campaign in hopes of raising $10,000 for the cause.

“It is extremely important to include events throughout to help maintain a positive school climate, while also teaching students that we can help those in need, says Coral Charlton, Principal of Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “This will be the first of many events that we have planned to help achieve our goal”.
