Second Lap for Relay for Life

For the second year, the students and staff of at Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute will be hosting the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. At last year’s event, Churchill students and staff raised over $15,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Following last year’s successful event, we are very excited to once again have the opportunity to support the Canadian Cancer Society through the Relay for Life,” says Ryan McDonnell, Student Success Teacher at Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “Students play a significant role in the planning and facilitation of the event and they take great pride in positive impact that the event has on our community.”

The Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute Relay for Life will be held on Friday, June 1 from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on the grounds of the school. The opening ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m. with cancer survivor and Claude E. Garton Public School Teacher Tanya Gouthro. Following the opening, there will be here will be a survivor lap for participating Cancer survivors to walk a lap together. Following the opening there will be a BBQ and activities throughout the night. The event will be moved indoors in the event of rain.
