Signs of Construction Season

Thunder Bay residents know that there are five seasons in our community – fall, winter, spring, summer and construction. True “signs” of construction season have just been completed by Construction students at both Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute and Hammarskjold High School.
“We were approached by the Ministry of Transportation to construct sign stands that will be used for summer road construction,” says John Delorey, Construction Technology teacher and Chair of Technology at Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute. “We are always pleased to have the opportunity to work with agencies and organizations on projects to give the students practical community experiences.
A variety of traffic related signs such as Bump Ahead, Road Closed, Weight Restrictions and Detour routing signs can be mounted onto the stands. They are used for highway construction purposes or to advise of temporary conditions on the roadway. The stands allow signs to be set up and taken down quickly and easily.
Construction students at both Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate and Vocational Institute and Hammarskjold High School have been busy this past school year with community construction projects. The Churchill students completed a project to construct 12 infection control caddies for St. Joseph’s Care Group and an outdoor library for Edgewater Park Public School. Students at Hammarskjold showed their community spirit by constructing new crossing guard huts for the City of Thunder Bay.
