Student Vampires

If you plan to visit Westmount Public School this Friday, be sure to bring lots of garlic and a mirror! Students in the Westmount Fine Arts Academy will be participating in a very special class that will transform them from everyday students into creatures of the night! The Grade 7 and 8 students will be learning about cosmetic special effects with a local makeup artist as they have some pre-Halloween fun as vampires and continue to learn about career pathways

“Our students are very excited to learn about special effects with a local makeup artist to create professional vampire-themed looks,” says Laura Bizjak, Teacher at Westmount Public School. “We are very fortunate to have the support of local partners in our community to bring unique learning experiences like this to our students.”

Carly Hughes of Wink make-up studio will lead the students in the special effect makeup session. Students have been exploring different careers in the arts on the career exploration website Xello Ms. Hughes is one of five guests that have recently visited the Fine Arts Academy for hands-on experiences and a question and answer session about her career and running a business.

The Westmount Public School Academy provides Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The Lakehead Public Schools academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
