Westmount Artist Visit

On Friday, April 7 the Westmount Public School Global Citizen Academy proudly welcomed Indigenous artist Wray Hunter Linklater to the school. Mr. Linklater worked with the students to produce woodland art paintings on canvas.

“We are very fortunate to have an artist of Mr. Linklater’s stature visit our academy,” says Lisa Dampier, Westmount Public School Global Citizen Academy Teacher. “He was able to provide a unique insight into a very distinct style of art that combines traditional legends and myths with contemporary mediums.”

Mr. Linklater returned to Westmount to continue his work with the students of the Global Citizen Academy on Thursday, April 13.

The Westmount Public School Academy, focused on Sports & Recreation, Fine Arts and Global Citizenship, is one of three pilot project Lakehead Public School Learning Academies. The Academies provide Grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to learn in an experiential and rigorous environment while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Curriculum. The pilot academies provide opportunities for students to participate in inquiry and/or project activities that encourage students to learn through active experience, reflect on the experience and apply their learning to various aspects of their lives.
