Westgate Challenge!

Challenge Accepted

Students from Grade 10 Introduction to Business and the Grade 11 Marketing classes at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute accepted a challenge and two charities are the beneficiaries! The students in both classes took up the challenge to run businesses for a day with all proceeds going to charity. The assignment gave students an opportunity to take part in all aspects of running an actual business for a day.

“The students were divided into groups and brainstormed possible food related businesses that they could run during lunch to generate revenue,” says Nicholas Sacevich, Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute Teacher. “They then did market research to determine business ideas that would generate the most revenue.”

The students then were responsible for budgeting, sourcing, pricing, and promoting their business. All proceeds were donated to the winning group’s charity. The Grade 10 class ran their lunch market and sold brownies and hot chocolate on Wednesday December 3 and raised $458 profit for Sick Kids. The Grade 11 class ran their lunch market challenge on Thursday December 11th.
